good morning I'm your English teacher
my name's Victoria
just like the name of the state we live in
if you want to learn about English pronunciation
you have come to the right place to practise your English
pronunciation is very important for good spoken communication
what do I mean by talking about good pronunciation
you don't have to speak English like a native speaker
it's fine to have a different accent
but what is important is that you're able to speak clearly
it means that you do not prevent other people from understanding what you are trying to say
there are many different English accents in Australia and all around the world
let's get started
now we will learn a new sound /aɪ/ - this is a diphthong
A diphthong is the sound of two vowels pronounced together as one syllable by gliding quickly from the first vowel to the second.
When we glide quickly from /a/ to /ɪ/, we get an /aɪ/ sound (as in I, try or bye).
shape the mouth makes changes from the beginning of the sound to the end
